MMO Preview

This dream just goes to show that I spend WAY too much time on the computer. I don’t play games as much as I used to, but I still enjoy a good RPG (usually beta) or shooter occasionally. Dream games can be interesting, because you’re “in” the game and experiencing it firsthand. ((^_^))

[03-13-2003]

The dream begins with me setting at my computer (as usual), reading about an MMORPG that was in production and running a “preview” (not quite beta) where you could log in and view the world before the game went live. They were holding an in-game interview with the creator of the game and during the interview you could join a conference to discuss the game or explore the world and go anywhere you please. Apparently I was either at my Mom’s or she was at my house, because I was telling her about it while the game was loading (as if my Mom cares about games).

Once the game loaded, I was no longer sitting at my computer; I was IN the game, along with all of the others that were participating in the preview. We were all randomly generated elven characters, sitting in a circle around the creator, whose in game character was the “king,” to discuss the game. I left the circle, along with several others, to go exploring. We were in an area at the edge of a cliff that was overlooking the ocean. Perched near the edge of the cliff was a huge saddled dragonfly, meant as the king’s transportation (kind-of the game’s version of “Air Force One”).

From the edge of the cliff, you could dive into the ocean and we were able to breathe underwater. There were NPCs that you could interact with and areas to explore at the bottom of the ocean. I swam around for a while with some huge fish (apparently our characters were tiny), until I reached a beach a distance from the cliff. At the edge of the water, an NPC gave me a feather and said, “This will lift the weight off your shoulders.” As soon as I took the feather, I could move around much faster. I ran through the woods back to the cliff and climbed a rope ladder that lead up to the discussion area. There was an announcement that the preview would be ending soon, so I decided to take the king’s dragonfly for a spin. I hopped into the saddle & took off, but I couldn’t see to navigate, so I just enjoyed the ride for a bit. Just as I was wondering how I would be able to land, the preview was over and I was suddenly staring at a blank screen.

After a few seconds of nothingness, I materialized in the middle of a battlefield in an army shooter. Before I could get my bearings, I was captured at gunpoint and thrown into a small bathroom. I found that every object in the room was interactive (I could turn on the faucet, open the drawers, etc), and my Mom (apparently watching over my shoulder) asked “Does the hot water work?” and I (from inside the game, able to feel the hot water) said “Yes.” Just as I was trying to figure out if I’d be able to crawl through the window over the sink, I awoke.

Cloud Land [Lucid]

This is probably the silliest lucid dream I’ve ever had (or at least it starts out that way). I actually noted the time that this dream occurred (11am – 12pm), so I’m thinking that I had been awake, then went back to sleep and was able to “descend” into the dream while remaining partially conscious. Unlike most dreams, where I “realize” that I’m dreaming, this dream starts out lucid, almost like loading a video game. This is also the first dream I’ve recorded with a “celebrity guest” appearance, Jason Mewes (from “Jay and Silent Bob”), who I refer to as “Jay” below. ((^_^))

[01-25-2003]

The scene fades in with me standing in clouds, and all I can see is sky all around me. As I’m wondering how I’m going to walk in the clouds, an uneven row of perfectly trimmed leafless bushes rise up from the clouds like stepping stones in a creek. At first, I’m hesitant to step on them, although they’re flat across the top and obviously there as a path of “leap pads” to cross the clouds. I look across the vast stretch of them and say to myself, “I can’t jump across those,” and then immediately smile and say “Of course I can.” Without giving it another thought, I leap from from one to another, following a slightly crescent path. At the center point of the curve, a girl I went to high school with is floating by and I tell her “I’m finally here!” She smiles and says, “Yeah, isn’t it great?” and I reply “Yes! Thanks you!” She just smiled and shrugged as if to say “I didn’t do it” and floated away.

Around the bend, the clouds clear to a grassy area that led up to a white lab building. Inside, there are six to ten other dreamers that all appear to be waiting for a turn to go into a side room with scientists in white lab coats. I notice that one of the people there is “Jay” (from “Jay and Silent Bob”), but I look away for a moment, and when I look back, he’s gone. A woman in a lab coat comes out of the side room and asks everyone to sit in the floor. She specifically asks me to sit right by the door to the side room. Through a window in the door, I see a dreamer lying on a table with scientists standing around him. One of the dreamers sitting in the floor says “You must be next,” but when they open the door, the call someone else’s name. No one seems to notice that people going into the room aren’t coming back out.

A friend and I decide against sitting in the floor and after a moment, we see his grandmother walking by. Two women help her into another room, lay her on a bed and tell her “Now you can go where your family wants you to go.” They are tucking her in and my friend wants to go in the room with her. I pull on his arm and say “Come on, there’s so much more we can do.” As we’re heading out of the building, I say “I wonder where Jay went… I bet he’s around the corner.” Just outside the door, a purple book bag is setting on the ground. I sarcastically and loudly say, “Oh! I wonder whose book bag that could be!” Jay’s arm pops up out of the bag, grabs us and pulls us in. A second later, we all three pop back out of the bag wearing headphones that are all connected to one clear, high-tech looking walkman [this was before my days of mp3 players]. Jay says we can listen to whatever we want, so we all take turns touching the strange, clear walkman (to psychically choose a song) and listening to bits of various songs. Just as we’re listening to “Beercan” by Beck [one of my favorites], a noise in the house wakes me up.
